Welcome to the Sweater Block Challenge!

I’m transforming my old sweaters and sweater scraps into sweaters blocks. I’ll make 4 rectangles of usable sweater panels: one for the sweater front, one for the back, and one each for the sleeves. (Eventually they’ll be a sweater!) I invite you to join me. The videos below will help you catch up.

Step 1

  • Step 1 Worksheet

  • Determine the length and width of each sweater panel.

  • Learn where to measure.

  • Write down the measurements.

step 2

It’s another catch up video! Working through Step 3 using traditional pattern making techniques to make the sections of the panel. Need more details? Scroll all the way to the end. Excerpts from the Step 3 (improvisation) livestream video and the entire Step 3a (traditional) are at the bottom of this page.

STEP 3 (Improvisation)

  • Step 3 Worksheet

  • Cut the sections (patches).

  • Sew the sections together.

  • Steam the seam allowances

STEP 3A (Traditional)

  • Transfer design to pattern paper.

  • Cut paper pattern pieces and fabric sections.

  • Sew sections together.

  • Steam the seam allowances
