Crafting Fashion

Always available

More a place of sweater knit sewing tips than a class, craftingfashion.com is the sister site of ojolly.net. It’s my blog of sewn sweater projects and techniques. Be sure to use the search field at the top of the right column (laptop/desktop view) to find the help you need.

Fun with Racking

>>REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.<<

Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM EDT to Noon, Vogue Knitting Live (Online)

Racking can be more than zigzags! We'll begin with a presentation of some of the diverse stitches that can be knitted with this technique. We’ll then review the principles of racking and learn an easy way to remember the knitting sequences. Join in to knit a couple of basic rib stitch patterns, then see what happens when we selectively add racking to the mix. Or you can follow along with the worksheet and take notes. This is an intermediate level class. A double bed knitting machine or a single bed machine and ribber are required. Search by my name (Olgalyn) or by the category (machine knitting) and see other classes offered at Vogue this month!

Classic Hems for Your Machine Knitted Sweater

>>REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.<<

Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM to Noon, MidAtlantic Fiber Association 2021 Online

The classic hems are a great foundation for single bed machine knitting and for becoming comfortable with your tools. We'll begin this class with a discussion of what makes a good hem. Then we’ll immediately jump beyond the plain hem to knit a few of the more complex classics. Strategies for efficient tool use and hem variations will be introduced. Use these hems at the start of a front, back, or sleeve on both fully fashioned sweaters or cut-and-sew sweater panels. (Hems taught are different from those presented at Vogue Knitting earlier this year.) Any gauge flatbed domestic knitting machine is suitable for these techniques along with the standard machine knitting tools (transfer tools, latch hook, etc.). This is a beginner level class. No ribber is required.

Advanced Edge Finishes for Your Cut and Sew Sweater

>>REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.<<

Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM to Noon EDT, O! Jolly! Workshop Online

In this live class online you’ll be introduced to advanced finishes that enclose a sweater edge. We won’t construct a sweater in this two-hour event. Instead we’ll work solely on the sweater knit bindings that can replace hems or cuffs, or (my favorite place to use it) the neckline.
